In 2020, Commissioner Porter was elected to the Tallahassee City Commission at 27 years old—making her the youngest woman to ever be elected in Tallahassee. Since then, she has spent her tenure in public service listening to our neighbors and focusing on the things that really matter: streets that are safe, homes we can afford, beautiful public spaces, protecting our tree canopy, and a vibrant city that invests in people, not special interests. Jack stood up against wasteful spending and voted No on raising property taxes three times.
Like most Floridians, Jacqueline “Jack” Porter isn’t originally from Florida. Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, Jack later moved to South Florida where she lived until moving to Tallahassee to attend Florida State University. She received her bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religion and holds master’s degrees in Urban & Regional Planning and in Public Administration & Policy, all from FSU. As a graduate student she was a proud member of United Faculty of Florida, a partner of the Florida Education Association.
After graduating, she worked for the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel, First Region where she learned first-hand the complex issues facing our most vulnerable residents and law enforcement. She later worked at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as a Florida Gubernatorial Fellow.
As a longtime community builder, Jack has worked tirelessly to advance progress on the issues that matter to our neighborhoods. In 2016, Jack was appointed to serve as Commissioner on the Tallahassee/Leon Commission on the Status of Women & Girls, where she served for three years. She has earned numerous awards and honors, such as being named one of the Tallahassee Democrat’s 25 Women to Know and one of twenty national Knight Foundation/8 80 Cities’ Emerging City Champions in 2017.
Jack knows the names of all the counties of Florida and knows some other things, too. In her spare time, she enjoys riding her bike, watching Bravo, and being a proud Virgo. But most importantly, Jack hopes to earn your vote on August 20th!
